Do you want to start a self-hosted WordPress website but are not sure how? If so, grab your favorite beverage. (I’m a tea girl… and that tea is calling me!) Then sit down and learn how to get your self-hosted WordPress website up and running in five easy steps.
1. Buy your domain and hosting plan
Choose and register a domain name at a domain registrar. I use NameSilo. If you go with NameSilo, use coupon code “AMBRETHEMES” to receive 10% off your first order. Then sign up for a hosting plan. I use SiteGround (affiliate link). SiteGround offers affordable prices, quick customer service, free website transfer, and up to 6 months free hosting for unused time with a current host. And WordPress recommends them!
2. Connect your domain and hosting
Find the nameservers (DNS) for your website in your hosting account. If you have trouble finding the nameservers, contact your host’s support. Then enter the nameservers into your domain account. If you are not sure where to enter the nameservers, contact your domain registrar. Note: Skip this step if you purchased your domain via your hosting company.
3. Install WordPress
Most hosting companies offer one-click WordPress installation. In the cPanel of your hosting account, look for a WordPress button. The button may be located under a section titled “Autoinstallers” or “WordPress Tools.” If you have any issue installing WordPress, your host’s support can provide assistance.
4. Buy your theme and the Genesis Framework
Now comes the fun part! Check out the Ambre themes and choose your favorite. If you find a theme you love but want a few changes, let me know your desires. I offer a customization service for design and minor layout changes. And, be sure you have the Genesis Framework (affiliate link).
5. Install and set up your theme
Install your theme by uploading the theme zip file via your WordPress admin. All Ambre themes come with thorough documentation to help you get your theme installed and set up like the demo. But if you would rather have it done for you, check out my Installation + Setup service. And if you have questions or run into any issues, just submit a support request,
Congratulations and good luck with your soon-to-be new website! If you have a question not answered in this article, please leave a comment below. I will do my best to answer or point you in the right direction.
